Enrollment Fees
Every enrollment requires an enrollment fee and nonrefundable administrative fee; in many cases, textbooks, an airmail fee, an audio/visual materials rental/deposit fee, and sales tax may be included.Middle School and Elementary Courses: $145.00 per part
High School Courses: $145.00 per half unit
University Courses: Undergraduate - $245.60 per credit hour
University Courses: Graduate - $298.70 per credit hour
University Courses: Information Technology Fee - $12.20 per credit hour

Administrative Fee: University, High School, Middle and Elementary School courses require a nonrefundable $25.00 administrative fee. The $25.00 administrative fee does not apply to Noncredit Continuing Education courses.
Supplemental fees:
- Business Course Fee - $34.60 per credit hour for courses taught within the College of Business
- CAFNR Course Fee - $40.30 per credit hour for courses taught within the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
- HES Course Fee - $37.50 per credit hour for courses taught within the College of Human Environmental Sciences
Textbooks and Other Course Materials
Required textbooks and supplementary course materials are available and may be ordered through the Center. Check the course listing for prices.
UPS Overnight Fee - (Domestic Delivery Only = Continental United States Only)
For an additional fee, the Center offers overnight delivery of textbooks and other course materials to addresses served by UPS. Check the application for overnight delivery charge; payment for this service must accompany application. This service does not apply to the return of lessons submitted or mailing of exams to exam supervisors.
Airmail Fee
If you do not have a U.S. ZIP code address, you must pay an airmail fee in addition to the standard fees. This fee provides airmail service for the course, return lesson service and regular correspondence that we send you. An additional airmail fee is listed for each textbook ordered; check the application for specific details.
Supplementary Materials Rental/Miscellaneous Fee
Some courses require audio-visual or other supplementary materials that can be either rented or purchased through the Center, and some courses require an additional miscellaneous fee. Check the course description for details, and include the rental deposit/miscellaneous fee with your enrollment payment. Videotape/film home use requires a deposit that will be partially refunded when the tapes/films are returned in good condition. Specific deposits are listed in each course description.
Payment of Fees
All fees are due and payable to the University and are the student's responsibility to pay as the result of registration or other activity that incurred as charges to the student. Students with delinquent accounts will NOT be allowed to enroll in subsequent courses.
- Make your check or money order payable to the University of Missouri.
- All fees and other charges must be paid in U.S. dollars; no foreign checks or money orders, except postal money orders, can be accepted.
- Send payment, along with your course enrollment form, to: Center for Distance and Independent Study 136 Clark Hall Columbia, MO 65211-4200.
Notes: Fees may be paid by credit card; the Center accepts VISA, MasterCard and Discover. Fees are due in full at the time of enrollment.
Returned Checks
Any check not honored by your bank will result in a $20 returned check fee. If the returned check, including e-check payments was attempting to pay a prior term balance, your classes may be canceled.
Delinquent Indebtedness
The University will pursue any and all collection efforts and practices including referring the account to a collection agency and/or attorney and reporting to the credit bureau. The account will be assessed all additional collection charges associated with the collection of the debt including but not limited to: collection agency fees, reasonable attorney's fees, court costs and all other charges allowed by law not to exceed 50% of the total charges.
Right to Modify
The University reserves the right to modify by increase or decrease the fees charged for attendance and other services at the University, including but not limited to educational fees, at any time when in the discretion of the governing board the same is in the best interest of the University, provided that no increases can or will be effective unless approved by the governing board not less than thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of the academic term (semester, etc,) to which the fees are applicable, with all modification of fees to be effective irrespective as to whether fees have or have not been paid by or on behalf of a student prior to the effective date of the modification.
Withdrawal
It is the student's responsibility to formally notify CDIS and to follow proper procedures when withdrawing. Failure to pay fees, failure to receive financial aid, failure to work on courses or refusing financial aid does NOT constitute an official withdrawal from courses or from the University of Missouri.
Bankruptcy
Educational and related fees are generally non-dischargeable in bankruptcy and will survive after the bankruptcy has closed. Except in certain limited situations, this means that a student will still owe the debt to the university after the bankruptcy.

Most federal programs require students to be degree-seeking. Some federal assistance is available for part-time students pursuing a degree. More information is available here.
Does the Center offer any type of financial aid?
- Scholarships or other forms of financial aid are not available through CDIS.
- You must pay all course fees at the time of enrollment.
- If your course is to be paid for by a third party, we must receive a purchase order or a letter from the responsible party.
The letter from your third party sponsor should state the following:
- the student’s name.
- the amount the third party has agreed to pay.
- the third party’s billing address.
